Ugly Christmas Sweaters

It's that time of year.  The time right before exam season where you go out one last weekend before buckling down to study and put on your ugliest christmas sweater.  Now, I picked up this cute snowman sweater from Value Village, but decided it was more cute than ugly.

So my roommates and I decided to take it upon ourselves to "ugly them up."  And what better way than to spend some time at the dollar store on the tackiest christmas bows and loudest jingle bells we could find.
We sat around drinking hot chocolate and watching elf while we worked like little elves ourselves, sewing on our tacky decorations to our sweaters.  I added a jingle bell collar on mine, some bows (also with bells) down the sleeves and some poinsettias along the bottom, that didn't make it through the night.

Definitely an improvement if I do say so myself and we all looked like christmas threw up on us.  Success.

DIY Floral Cutoffs

These shorts are made from a pair of pale green jeans I found at Value Village, I added fabric paint from Michael's and cut them off into shorts.  Here's how....

What you'll need....
1. A basic floral stencil that is slightly sticky on the back.
2. Tulip fabric paint in Petal Pink and Glacier White.
3. A small sponge brush.
4. A pair of high-waisted pants or shorts.

I started by putting the stencil in one of the places I wanted a flower, I sponged white in the center of the stencil and added pink around the edges.  I later found out that it was easier to fill the whole stencil with just pink, let all those flowers dry and then sponge white in the middle over top.

Pink flowers to start...
White centers added...
Repeat this on the front of the pants.  Once dry, try the jeans on and cut them to the short length you prefer.  I cuffed the short legs by rolling them up twice, to give them a more finished look.

Welcome to One Broke Student

I've always wanted to start a blog, so here it is.  I'm not entirely sure how this will go or if I will be able to keep up with it, but I want to document my experiences.  It doesn't make any difference to me who reads this blog, or if anyone reads this blog.  This is for me.

I am a University Science student and work at a burger stand in the summer.  Hence, the broke student.  I spend majority of my time on wishing I was a hippie and travelling the world.  I love baking, cupcakes especially.  I could spend my entire life doing crafts and DIY projects and be completely happy.

The purpose of this blog is to document my projects and the recipes I've made.  The good and the bad.  Most of these will be money-saving and budget-friendly, with the occasional splurges, because, lets face it, we all deserve to treat ourselves once and awhile.  Let's get this started.
