Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

Didn't take me long to give baking donuts a try and I am pretty impressed.  I started simple because I didn't want to have a tragedy and be afraid to try again.  I found this recipe for cinnamon sugar donuts from One Day At A Time.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
For topping:
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease the donut pan.  In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.  In a smaller bowl (or 2 cup measuring cup) lightly beat egg and add buttermilk, melted butter and vanilla.  Mix the wet ingredients into the dry until just combined.  Fill the pan 3/4 full and bake for 15-17 minutes.

I put the batter into a large Ziploc bag and cut the corner off to pipe the batter into the pan, which was a lot neater and easier in my opinion than spooning it in.

Once baked, remove the donuts from the oven and allow them to cool for a couple minutes before flipping them out of the pan.  Brush the donuts with the melted butter and them roll and toss them around in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Enjoy them warm and they will be delicious.

Have you guys ever made baked donuts?  Any suggestions for what favour I should try next?

  1. Hi! This sounds like a good recipe. It's going to be getting cool out again soon, and I'm on the hunt for yummy, tummy-warming stuff like this! I don't know that I've ever seen a doughnut baking pan like the one you showed before, but I'll keep my eyes wide open for one now!

I've made muffin-style doughnuts, but never anything quite like these. As soon as I find that pan, I'm going to give it a whirl. In the meantime...pinning!!!

Thanks for the recipe! Have a great weekend!
